Progress So Far

The project began properly in April 2003.  Between then and August 2007:-

We  identified suitable questionnaires to assess each child's quality of life and participation.

Toulouse, France identified the most suitable instrument to assess the quality of life of children with learning difficulties.

Belfast, Northern Ireland, developed materials to give information to, and seek consent from, parents and children.

Cork, Republic of Ireland, Grenoble, France, Göteborg, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark and Viterbo, Italy,  held focus groups to explore relevant environmental factors with parents.

Home visits were made to  818 children.

Thirteen research papers are now published or in print (see Publications tabs).  We continue with further statistical analysis.

We have a  detailed plan of how results will be disseminated to parents, national governments, European Union Parliament and the European Commission.

In January 2009 we obtained further funding for SPARCLE 2.  The young people will be visited again when 13-17 years old.

IWe have had two SPARCLE 2 Workshops and young people are now being visited.
