The Council of the British Society of Rheology has asked Nick Hudson to
organise a lecture to honour the memory of Jim Ferguson, who was a past
President and the European representative of the society. It has been
further suggested that additional lectures be given in his honour.
Other eminent rheologists who have offered to speak are Professor Ken Walters, FRS, of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Professor Howard Barnes, OBE, of Unilever plc.
The lectures will be followed by a short reception.
Mrs Jean Ferguson and family, the speakers, and some representatives of the University will then be the guests of the British Society of Rheology at dinner. The timetable is as follows:
| 1430 | Prof Neil Graham - Chairman's opening remarks |
| 1440 | Prof Howard Barnes, OBE - Rheology and Industry |
| 1530 | Refreshments |
| 1600 | Prof Ken Walters, FRS - Rheology and Academia |
| 1650 | Prof Neil Graham - The Jim Ferguson Memorial Fund |
| 1700 | Prof Claude Wolff & Dr Nick Hudson - Jim Ferguson, his Contributions to Science in General & Rheology in Particular |
| 1800 | Reception (Foyer of the Thomas Graham Building) |
| 1930 | Dinner |
Note from the organizer, Nick Hudson:
To help with planning, please let me know if you intend to be at the
reception. I would also welcome any messages that you would wish to be
passed on to Jean, Jim's widow.
