The Spanish Group of Rheology (GER) was founded in 1982 as a Specialized Interdisciplinary Group inside both the "Real Sociedad Española de Química, R.S.E.Q." (Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry) and the "Real Sociedad Española de Física, R.S.E.F." (Spanish Royal Society of Physics). The founder of the GER, Professor José Alemán, was elected President during the first Annual General Meeting, held in the "Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros" (Madrid, April 1983).
Among the most important contributions of the GER could be mentioned the normalization of the rheological nomenclature in Spanish (UNE 53-418-87) and the organization of the 4th European Rheology Conference, which was held in Seville (September 1994).
At present the GER consists of around 75 members and a number of industrial partnerships.
