Call for papers
Papers are invited on the topics listed below, and related themes. The work to be described may be
experimental or theoretical and related to research or industrial applications:

Adhesion/bonding of composites
Autoclave processing and heat transfer
Filament winding and pultrusion processing
	Injection moulding of reinforced materials
	Numerical modelling/simulation of processing
Resin transfer moulding
Rheology of polymeric composites
	Sheet forming of advanced composites
	Smart/intelligent processing technologies

Abstracts (four copies please), of less than 200 words, should be sent with the attached form to the address
indicated to arrive by 30 September 1998. The abstract should clearly state the objectives, (anticipated)
results and novelty/conclusions of the work undertaken. Authors of accepted papers will be advised by the
end of the calendar year and camera-ready copy manuscripts of the full text will be required by 31 March
1999.

Papers presented at the conference will be issued as conference preprints to all registered delegates on
arrival at Conference Registration Desk.

Scope of the Conference
This conference is the fifth in a series devoted to manufacturing of polymer matrix composites. Each
conference has attracted high quality papers and provided a forum for discussion amongst academics and
industrialists. The previous meetings were held at:
Brunel University 1988
selected papers published in Composites, January 1989, 20(1).
University of Limerick 1991
selected papers published in Composites Manufacturing, 1991, 2(3/4).
University College Galway 1994
selected papers published in Composites Manufacturing, 1995, 6(3/4).
University College of Wales, Aberystwyth 1996
selected papers published in Composites Part A, 1998, 29(1/2).
Authors are also invited to submit papers for publication in a special issue of Composites Part A: Applied
Science and Manufacturing. These papers, which should be submitted before or during the Conference, will
be subject to the full refereeing procedures of the journal and the issue should appear during the year 2000.

Exhibition and poster papers
An exhibition of equipment and related services will take place in the catering/circulation area outside the
meeting rooms. A limited area for poster papers will be available for delegates who do not wish to make a
verbal presentation because of mathematical complexity or language.

Indicative fees and accommodation costs
The registration fee for the conference will be 150 for the three days (125 for full-time students).
Meals, including the conference dinner, and refreshments provided throughout the meeting will be 75.
Accommodation (B&B) in single en-suite rooms in the Robbins Centre, will be 25/night.
Accommodation (B&B) can be arranged in the Copthorne Hotel (four-star, five minutes walk from Robbins
Centre) at the University rate (currently 59/night single, 69/night twin/double). Detailed costings will be
included with the conference programme and registration form.

The conference is budgetted on a no-profit basis and it is thus not possible to contribute towards delegates
travel costs or to sponsor places at the meeting.

Mailing list
For inclusion on the conference mailing list, please return the attached form to the address indicated.

Venue
Plymouth is an attractive city situated on Plymouth Sound which is one of the largest natural bays on the
South Coast of England. The city has a long history with especial interest during the reign of Queen
Elizabeth I when Drake and other notable sea captains sailed from the city. It was also a point of departure
for the Mayflower sailing to America with the early settlers. The Dartmoor National Park lies immediately
to the north of the city and the spectacular coastline of Cornwall to the West.

The Robbins Conference Centre was opened in 1995 and includes a fully equipped modern lecture theatre,
seminar rooms, catering facilities and delegate accommodation. The flats are within easy walking distance
of the historic Barbican area.

Delegates combining this conference with ICCM-12 (to be held in Paris during 5-9 July), should note that
there is a daily flight Paris-Jersey-Plymouth. Regular scheduled flights also serve Bristol, Cork, Dublin,
Jersey and London Gatwick (the latter including connections from Paris). The Eurostar rail service Paris-
London Waterloo (via the Channel Tunnel) connects with the rail sleeper train to Plymouth. Plymouth is
served by Great Western Trains service from London Paddington running hourly during the day (fastest
journey time is three hours) and regular Virgin XC cross-country trains from Scotland, the North and
Midlands via Bristol. There are regular ferry sailings to Roscoff (Britanny) and Santander (Spain).

During July the normal temperature in Plymouth is 15-25 C during the day and may drop to 10 C during
the night. In the event of rain, delegates are advised that raincoats are perhaps of more value than
umbrellas as the location is susceptible to gusty winds.
