The Technician Commitment is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by Gatsby’s Technicians Make It Happen campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research (see attached booklet). Although the Technician Commitment is initiative is led by the Science Council the remit expands to cover all technicians in HEIs regardless of discipline or function.  Last March, Newcastle University became one of the founding signatories of the Technician Commitment and as such pledged action against the key challenges affecting their technical staff.

Since then a Steering Group chaired by Prof David Burn (PVC, FMS) has been established and it has formulated a strategy which details how Newcastle University will deliver the Technician Commitment.

The Newcastle University Technician Commitment will be launched on the 28th February 2018 and I would like to invite you to the launch event which will be attended by the Vice-Chancellor.  The launch will be held in the Lindisfarne Room (lunch included) from 11.30 to 13.45 (see attached Agenda).

If you are able to attend, for catering purposes I would be grateful if you could complete a Booking Form.  Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you require any further information.

Regards – Mel Leitch & Linda Robinson
