Professor Jay Rubin

Jay Rubin taught for many years at the University of Washington and is an emeritus Professor of Japanese Literature at Harvard University and a translator of Murakami Haruki, Natsume Sōseki, Akutagawa Ryūnosuke, and other modern Japanese writers. He is the author of Injurious to Public Morals: Writers and the Meiji State (1984), Making Sense of Japanese (1998), Haruki Murakami and the Music of Words (2002), The Sun Gods (2015), and Murakami Haruki to watashi (2016), and editor of Modern Japanese Writers (2000) and The Penguin Book of Japanese Short Stories (2018).
