Dr David Karashima

David Karashima is an assistant professor in creative writing at the School of International Liberal Studies, Waseda University. He has translated into English works by a range of contemporary authors, including Hitomi Kanehara, Hisaki Matsuura, and Shinji Ishii, and writes for a variety of publications in both English and Japanese. Co-editor of the Pushkin Press Japanese Novella Series (with Michael Emmerich), the Strangers Press Keshiki Series (with Elmer Luke), and International Editor of Granta Japan, Karashima is currently putting together a monograph based on interviews with translators, editors, designers, etc., of Haruki  Murakami’s work. From April 2016 to March 2017, he also hosted the NHK radio show Eigo de yomu Murakami Haruki [“Reading Haruki Murakami in English”].
