GENERATIVE DESIGN

Description of mechanical assemblies by shape features of components and
their spatial relations. Application of shape grammars to generate designs
based on shape features and their spatial relations.

ALGEBRAS OF DESIGN

Description of designs in terms of parts and properties.  Associated
topological and algebraic structures of shape descriptions including CAD
geometric modelling. Application to visualisation representation and
interpretation. Boundaries of shapes, picture languages and spatial
reasoning.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Analysis of product development in large engineering products with
distributed design and supply networks. Computational tools for rapid
product development in mechanical engineering design. Contribution to
ERDF/DTI funded project "A Rapid Product Development Environment - concept
to validation" 1995-98 and continuing 1998-2000 in Regional Centre for
Innovation and Design, Newcastle University.
