The Decision Support Matrix (DSM)

The Decision Support Matrix is a tool to support policy and decision making. Recognising the need to communicate clear messages to end users and allow stakeholders (farmers, industry, local and national government) to take ownership of problems the DSM allows the land use planner or farmer to investigate different land management practices. Developed through a combination of research and through direct engagement with policy makers and stakeholders at all scales the DSM should reflect current state of knowledge and up-to-date concerns. TopManage logo

TopManage is a digital terrain analysis (DTA) tool which is designed to demonstrate to farmers and land managers the effect of different land uses on hydrology. Used in conjunction with a Geographical Information System (GIS) such as ArcView, TopManage enables the user to assess what the effect would be of adding to, or removing from, the land topographic features. Starting from a digital terrain map of a particular field or area of farmed land, usually derived from Geographical Positioning System (GPS) measurement, maps can be input to the GIS, topographic features added, and augmented terrain maps analysed using TopManage.
