IDMAPS launches Institutional Data Feed Service
The IDMAPS team is pleased to announce the formal launch of the Institutional Data Feed Service (IDFS) at Newcastle University.
The IDFS provides application developers throughout the University with a single point-of-contact for requesting bulk institutional data feeds. It assists in the compulsory documentation of all data flows, and supplies advice and guidance on core institutional data. By holding definitive records of flows, it maintains oversight of the University’s institutional data requirements, allowing for higher quality development, a quicker response time to requests. It also helps to ensure compliance with legal obligations such as the Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
The launch of the IDFS marks a significant milestone in the IDMAPS project. The absence of a co-ordinated institutional data infrastructure was identified as a considerable problem at Newcastle, and a key reason to undertake the project.
The IDFS, and its supporting documents and policies, are at the core of the improved institutional data infrastructure developed by the project. The clear support of senior management for the development and deployment of the service underlines the University’s commitment to ensuring that its future institutional data requirements are met.
