Another Talend Demonstration Video Released

The IDMAPS team has just released the second in a series of videos on the use of Talend at Newcastle University.  It is a natural follow-up to the first video, which demonstrated the use of Talend to supply the Grouper group management tool with data from institutional data sources.

The new video demonstrates the extraction of data from Grouper in order to provision other systems which depend on group management, using the example of the Syllabus Plus Room Booking system. Control over who can book particular rooms must be exercised based upon an individual’s position and role within the organisation. This information is supplied from Grouper, and combined with other sources of data to generate an XML feed which is parsed by Syllabus Plus.

The use of Talend as a data processing tool reduces the need for ad-hoc scripts to feed systems such as Syllabus Plus, which in turn allows the better control and easier maintenance of institutional data flows.
