THE ICONOGRAPHY OF WARFARE
External Partner: English Heritage, Newcastle
This project would focus on the imagery and iconography of the larger public memorials of the world wars within the city of Newcastle. The aim would be to to set changes in imagery in the context of the aims and aspirations of the designers, builders and of these monuments.
A good basic staring point in terms of published information on memorials would be ‘Public Sculpture of North-east England’ (Public Sculpture of Britain) by Paul Usherwood, Jeremy Beach and Catherine Morris.
