Rutgers University, Camden (USA), Department of Childhood Studies
The Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University (the first doctoral-granting department in the States) is a leader in the national and international discourse on the state of children and childhood both in the United States and around the world. In April 2009, Childhood Studies hosted an international multidisciplinary conference Children and War that explored the impact of armed conflict on children of today and in the past, including the First World War. A volume of essays first given at the conference will be published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2011.
Lynne Vallone is an advisory member of the Approaching War team. She is Professor and Chair of the Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University. Her current research involves explorations of theories of big and small in adult and children’s literature and culture of the seventeenth through twenty-first centuries.
