We do not expect that students will necessarily work on projects we suggest (though specific topics may be determined by funding sources) and we happy to discuss your project ideas as it may be easier to remain motivated throughout your studies, if you develop a project that is of real interest to you! The point of taking a graduate degree is to develop yourself intellectually; we see the supervisor's role as being to guide, not to direct.
