| I am interested in environmental politics and the communication of science between scientific institutions, interest groups and policy makers. Within this context my PhD will investigate the scientific evidence and normative values for/ against the establishment of MPAs in UK waters, and also consider how science is transferred into policy. | ![]() |

Eco-politics of marine protected areas Summary: My PhD will take an interdisciplinary approach that will involve: detailed analyses of the scientific evidence behind the concept of the MPA; interviews with key actors involved in MPA research/ policy; distribution of structured questionnaire surveys amongst key stakeholder groups. A substantial part of the research project will involve bibliometric and social network analyses that will be used to investigate the spread of scientific ideas and the extent to which an epistemic community has formed to advocate the MPA concept.
