Since the 1980s, Ingrid Pollard has used photographs, prints, moving image and audio to uncover the layered histories of representation. Melding together ephemera with iconic images; the English with the African, it makes visible the invisible, to reveal in her words ‘what we always knew was there’. While investigating race, ethnicity and public spaces she has developed work juxtaposing landscape and portraiture which provide a context for issues of migration, family and home.

Pollard studied Film and Video at the London College of Printing. She holds an MA in Photographic Studies from University of Derby and a PhD from the Westminster University. In 2018, Pollard was awarded the prestigious inaugural Stuart Hall Associate Fellowship at the University of Sussex.
