Over the past few years Borland has worked in close collaboration with medical schools, developing her particular interest in the use of 'simulated patients'; both actors who undertake role-plays with the students, and programmable, interactive, life-sized patient manikins. A recent project 'Cast From Nature' explored the historical and contemporary performative relationship between medical professionals, their patients and subjects. A current international collaboration 'Circles of Focus' with artist Brody Condon, explores the dynamic of the anatomy dissection theatre and the potential for performance and role-play in this context.
