Professor Nicola Innes

Professor Nicola Innes PhD BDS (Hons) BSc BMSc(Hons)  MFGDP  MFDS (RCS Eng) Nicola is the Professor of Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Dundee.  Her research interests are around improving children’s oral health and addressing inequalities in their dental care.  Initially Nicola qualified as a Registered General Nurse, completed a BSc in Life Sciences at Napier University, Edinburgh then graduated with a BDS (hons) and First Class BMSc (hons) in Molecular and Cellular Pathology from the University of Dundee. She then spent seven years as a General Dental Practitioner before coming back to the University as a Lecturer, where I am now lead teaching and research in Child Dental and Oral Health.  Nicola’s PhD investigated the Hall Technique, a novel method of managing dental caries in primary teeth, and she was awarded the Senior Colgate Research prize from the International Association for Dental Research and the IADR/Unilever Hatton award for this work.  In addition to co-authoring Cochrane Reviews, sitting on guidance development groups and investigating methodological improvements for dental clinical trials, Professor Innes is Co-Principal Investigator on FiCTION (www.fictiontrial.org), and  also collaborate internationally on trials in Germany, Australia, Lithuania, New Zealand, Brazil and the US.
