Research Interests

James's research interests include: a freedom based approach to education reform; the role of private schools for the poor in developing countries; the role of competition, entrprerneurship and the profit motive in education; higher education reform in the UK, the history of private education prior to state intervention and the hidden costs and unintended consequences of government intervention in education in the UK and abroad.
