Research Interests James's research interests include: market based solutions in education; the right to education; the development of private schools for the poor in developing countries; higher education reform in the UK, the history of private education prior to state intervention and the hidden costs and unintended consequences of government intervention in education in the UK and abroad. James is currently developing a 'freedom based approach' to Education for All. James is a Fellow of the Adam Smith Institute, London. The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) blog:
