A wooden sculpture of the Venerable Bede (d.735AD) in St Paul's Church, Jarrow. Bede was one of the most productive and influential writers and theological scholars in Anglo-Saxon England. His most famous work is the Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (The Ecclesiastical History of the English People).
