It is vital when measuring the effects of specific interventions that we have good measures to describe change in the skills of young children with autism. The Communication and Symbolic Behaviour Scales – Developmental Profile (CSBS-DP) was developed in USA. This study aimed to see how sensitive the CSBS-DP is in measuring change in a sample of UK children. The CSBS-DP uses toy play to look at children’s communicative behaviours, such as looks, sounds, words and gestures, and their ability in pretend play.
