ACTION 2012: Social Renewal was launched in February 2012 by Prof. Gerry Docherty. It is a 9 month competition for early career researchers designed to promote enterprise and entrepreneurial training and the exploitation of research. The programme is one of a series of events linked to Newcastle University's Societal Challenge theme of Social Renewal. Five teams of researchers drawn from all across the University, have developed commercial solutions to their chosen Social Renewal challenge following a series of training events (See the Teams section)
At the Showcase final each team produced a trade stand displaying their business idea together with a prototype, video, model or other visual form of their solution. The competition was judged by an expert panel on both the quality of the team pitch and the strength of their trade stand. The winning team was awarded a prize to further develop themselves as entrepreneurial researchers.
